You can change a life in 10 minutes!
Imagine surviving third world living conditions; the rigors of subsistence farming, a civil war and genocide, limited health care, all the while raising a family of 8 children, only to see it all fade into blindness because you lack the resources for a simple 10 minute eye surgery. For Andres and Cornelio this was the reality of life in Ixcán, Guatemala. The development of cataracts slowly took away their abilities to work and provide income for their families.
Being blind in Ixcán creates severe safety concerns. Foot travel is on dirt paths. For these two men walking became impossible without assistance and just walking to use the outhouse required a cane. The onset of cataracts and blindness put them at risk of possible life threatening injuries with poor access to medical care. A fall could result in a hip fracture (1/3 of all hospitalizations in the US are from a simple fall and fracture) but in Ixcán the availability of basic health services is lacking.
Generous contributions to Enfoque Ixcán changed this bleak future for both Andres and Cornelio.
A short, 10 minute vision restoring surgery is a miracle for people like Andres and Cornelio, allowing them to work, walk with purpose and return to helping build stronger communities. You will make stories like this possible with your kind and life changing donation to Enfoque Ixcán.
A $125 donation can remove the burdens of blindness caused by cataracts. Your thoughtful donation allows valuable, hardworking people to return to their communities and contribute meaningfully in the schools, churches and homes.
Working at a cataract surgery center in the U.S., I witness this joy every day. Won’t you join me in knowing that you have made a life altering contribution for people like Andres and Cornelio? So many of their neighbors experience reduced quality of life in their later years just because there is no access to eye care where they live, except through Enfoque Ixcán. I think Cornelio said it best, “Thanks be to God for people like you who help the poor, like us.”
